Nikoloz Gogochuri, cebas' finalRender expert, brings action to Georgia's budding CG market!  Lookout for the ICG Georgia event June 14-20, 2015 in Tbilisi.

(ICG Tbilisi 2014)

Cebas is happy to catch up with Nikoloz Gogochuri of Georgia's CG world! Please, let's start by telling us something about yourself and how you started...

Niko: Thank you for the opportunity to write this testimonial. My name is Nikoloz Gogochuri and I am the chairman of "Visual Effects and Computer Graphics Development Association CG Georgia". My experience in Computer Graphics began in the late 90's. My love for animation and cartoons brought me to CG. I bought a book on 3dsMax, started learning the program and I have been learning CG/VFX ever since. I founded my first CG studio called Orange Graphic back in 2005 and our main focus was architectural visualization.

CG/VFX scene in Georgia is not very big at the moment but it is developing quickly. My friends and I founded CG Georgia in 2013 and we have been actively stimulating the growth and development of the industry in our region with various activities like festivals, free training programmes, contests, challenges etc.

Right now we are preparing for the first regional CG event in the Caucasus. ICG Tbilisi 2015 will be a massive event that consists of speaker sessions, panel discussions, CG Challenges, round table meetings, workshops and exhibitions. It will take place on June 14-20, 2015 in Tbilisi, Georgia (more information can be found here: icgevent.com)

Cebas: what are your recent project? Please tell us how you were involved?

My latest personal work is Lamborghini Miura scene in 3d render. The aim of this exercise was to create a custom metallic car paint shader. I use finalRender for almost all my projects. My other works can be found in this album: https://goo.gl/uqKjOC

Niko's latest finalRender project : sleek is the word!

Cebas: which shots/images in particular were you involved in?

Niko: several of the projects were done by me for my company as well as my won personal project videos. Particularly interesting for me was working on the shots of the Water mills film on Mtkvari presentation: (see following video) . It was done with finalRender as well and fR showed flexibility and ease of use during this project.

Cebas: which were the cebas visual technologies used in your project and how did you use our software to achieve the desired effects?

Niko: I use finalRender for my projects. I have been using fR since the first public beta version back in the early 2000's. I always liked the flexibility and realistic lighting/shading it provided. fR is particularly strong dealing with animation (both camera and character animation) so working on animated products I find it appealing to use fR.

Cebas: what do you find… usually are the most difficult aspects of 3d visualization/ design work - is it technology or artistic creativity? - and how do you resolve this?

Niko: in my opinion the most challenging aspect of CG visualization is creating the mood. Lighting is crucial in this process. Inspiration and reference material plays a very important role in dealing with lighting and mood creation in the CGI. I try to find as much reference material for every image I work on as possible. Then I try to mimic lighting and overall temperature of the image to create the image I like. Generally I try to make the raw render look as close to the final result I have in mind as possible and then deal with it in the post.

Cebas: how did cebas software integrate into your production pipeline? How straightforward was it?

Niko: finalRender is also great when it comes to integration into the existing pipeline. It works flawlessly with Autodesk Backburner, so rendering animated projects with your existing render farm is a breeze. finalRender Distributed Rendering feature is also great for rendering high resolution static images.

Cebas: in your view, what is your wish for cebas software to achieve that is not currently doing for you?

Niko: I would wish to get more frequent updates and revisions of fR. It's a great tool and I would love for it to constantly be updated with new features.

Cebas: what projects can we expect from you in the future!

Niko: at the moment I am more involved in the industry development process of the region rather than creation of CG itself so I guess more can be expected in that direction. As for the Visualization, I would love to work on more personal projects in the future. I always try to create something whenever I have some free time.

Thanks again for the amazing tools your company creates for CG professionals all around the world and keep up the good work you do!

Cebas: Thank you so much Niko, for sharing your insights with the community! We wish the ICG 2015 Tsibili all the best!
