cebas Visual Technology is moving to a new licensing system for all of their newly released software products. In an effort to enhance the user experience and offer enhanced software licensing management tools, cebas Life Licenser has been developed.

The main benefits of our new system offers:

• Always Online Realtime Licensing
• Always know the Status of Licenses Used - In Realtime
• Free any stuck or crashed License
• True Floating License System (Independent of Hardware)
• One account can use unlimited Workstations to share/use a License
• Get an overview of all Licenses purchased per account
• Check-Out a Licenses for a specific amount of time or the full amount (offline).
• Transfer a License to a 'Foreign' Hardware/account (Borrow)

Important: It is your responsibility to make backup copies of your programs and ensure an “Always On” Internet connection exists. If, for any reason, you feel this is not a comfortable situation or feasible at all times - we do suggest you Export your license to a local file. While exporting a local license file works in a more stable and secure manner, it removes all the other benefits of a “Life Licensing” system (e.g changing hardware, borrowing…).

cebas Life Licenser is automatically installed with cebas Product Manager (Version 3.0.48 or later). Multiple executable files are part of the licensing system. In general, there is no need for You to fiddle around or change anything in case of normal or standard 3ds Max installations. The installation of cebas Product Manager will automatically install and prepare Your Windows system for the use of cebas Life Licenser.
However, there is always a but - isn't there? - Our licensing system does update its own components from time to time, so it is possible, or even very likely, that you might need to reconfirm and allow the application cebas_lic_server.exe through Your Firewall software.

By default cebas Life Licenser uses the following settings:

IP Port: 3144

Server Host: localhost or 127.0.0.1

All of these settings can be changed via a simple ini file residing in the same folder as the license server tools.

In case Your Firewall software requests You to allow access to Port 3144 for cebas_lic_server.exe, please confirm this request and enable the use of this TCP/IP port.
Depending on the type of network setup your company uses, more network adjustments might be necessary (dedicated Router Firewall …). This document is not meant as a network administration course, our system follows industry wide networking standards and protocols which are well documented throughout the internet.

In cebas Product Manager under User Information, You must check the option (as shown above) “Remember my Login information”.

Also, make sure you use the Test Login button, at least once, to confirm all your credentials are correct and working. cebas Life Licenser will use those credentials, stored encrypted and securely on your Windows system. If you do not choose this option, the new licensing system will fail to work properly.

By default, all components of cebas Life Licenser will be installed in: C:\Users\Public\Documents\cebas\autoupdate\share where “C:\” would represent your system drive or any other redirected drive or folder used for the standard Public Documents folder in Windows.

There are 3 applications in the Share folder.

• cebas_lic_server.exe - this is the main license server application
• cebas_lic_hardware_info.exe - this generates a TXT file with the hardware specific ID
• cebas_lic_server_update.exe - this is used to self-update the licensing system if necessary

One sub-folder called LicenseViewer, can be found there as well.

The LicenseViewer application is a standard Windows.NET application which must be installed by invoking Setup.exe. After the installation process went through, You'll be able to use the LicenseViewer Application.
