Ivan Prvulj talks about his journey from hand drawn art to visual effects, and his recent Captain Marvel's Blue Energy effects work at ScanlineVFX

Edwin Braun recently talked to Ivan Prvulj (pro-voi) about his career from 2D into 3D and finally FX work at ScanlineVFX, Vancouver. Ivan and his crew were very fortunate to have work on the Captain Marvel's climax scenes - the air ships dog fight and crash scene resulting in the release of blue energy that exploded and enveloped Carol Danvers (Marvel character) triggering her Captain Marvel superpowers.

Ivan Prvulj was the Lead FX for this climax scene and he tells how he uses thinkingParticles to create the effects from concept. Ivan also spoke of one of his favorite scenes - the large scale hospital building destruction in Independence Day Resurgence - which is to Ivan what peak days are like, working in FX at ScanlineVFX.

At ScanlineVFX, Ivan Prvulj is famous for the "Less than 25 Objects.." Rule (24 - 26:40 min): Says Ivan,
" I will generally hand animate, if there are up to 25 objects. I may sim and use for referance purposes. But I find it quicker to hand animate smaller amount of objects, rather then endlessly tweaking parameters to have it look right."

Ivan worked as Lead FX for some of ScanlineVFX most successful films to date:

- Captain Marvel (2019)
- Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
(FX Artist)
- Black Panther (2018)
- The Meg (2018)
- Justice league (2017)
- Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)
- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
- In the Heart of the Sea (2015)
- Pan (2015)
- San Andreas (2015)
- Fast and Furious: Furious Seven (2015)
- Game of Thrones: The Children season 04 Ep 10 (2014)
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
- Pompeii (2014)

Ivan also brings us back to how he started, to his days in Japan where he worked first in 2D illustrations, and was in team for 'Space Pirate Captain Harlock (2014)' before diving into 3D and finally selecting V/FX as his career path. Ivan Prvulj 2019 FX Reel - watch till the end.
